FIA race director Charlie Whiting wants to have a talk with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen following his controversial penalty he was given at the end of the Italian Grand Prix.

Verstappen was involved in an intense battle with Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas before making contact with him in lap 44.

Bottas claimed that Verstappen didn't leave enough room for the Finn on the outside, who then made contact with the Red Bull's left rear as a result.

The race stewards made the decision and agreed with the Mercedes man, and Verstappen was handed a five second penalty which gifted Bottas a podium finish and put the Dutchman all the way down to fifth, with Sebastian Vettel the lucky man.

"They are doing a great job of killing racing, honestly," a fuming Verstappen said on the Red Bull team radio following the team informing him about his penalty.

Whiting expected nothing other than a raging Verstappen and admitted that he wants to talk to the driver before the next race in Singapore.

"I don't think you can take too much notice of comments made in the heart of the battle," Whiting told Motorsport.com. "In the heat of the battle, that's absolutely expected.

"But I'm sure at the next driver's briefing, we will have a little chat about that."

This is not the first time Verstappen has raged on the team radio; and it certainly won't be the last.
