Pierre Gasly has expressed his pleasure at the reliability of his Honda engines with Toro Rosso this season after he secured an impressive sixth place in Hungary.

McLaren experienced a torrid time with Honda as their engine supplier for three season between 2015 and 2017 but Toro Rosso have reaped the rewards of Honda’s McLaren experience, with a more powerful and more reliable engine than the Woking based team ever received.

Gasly’s points scoring finishes show a strange pattern this season, being well inside the top ten on every occasion he has scored.

4th in Bahrain, 7th in Monaco and last week’s 6th in Hungary give the Frenchman a solid return of 26 points so far this season.

Despite Honda’s improvements, it is no surprise that he has scored points on the least power-based tracks, Monaco and Hungary, as Honda try to improve their product ahead of Red Bull taking it on next season.

Gasly was speaking about Honda’s performance, and said: “I think it’s promising.

“With Budapest, we knew that it's a track that's a bit less power-sensitive and in a way it would make things a bit closer between everyone.

“Honda did a fantastic job in qualifying in the wet conditions. Driveability was great. Then again in the race, we didn't have any issues at all.

“It is the best way to motivate them and show them that we have potential and to push them forward, especially coming before the summer break, just to give a big boost to everyone.

“Hopefully we get more performance on their side for the second half of the season.”
