Meanwhile, McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri could only manage fourth, while four-time world champion Max Verstappen endured a stunning disaster, qualifying a lowly 16th. After a first Q3 lap spoiled by a lock-up in Turn 1, Norris regrouped and produced a flawless 1m09.511s lap, nearly two-tenths clear of Antonelli.
