Kvyat poised for grid penalty after gearbox change

Daniil Kvyat is poised to incur a five-place grid penalty for the British Grand Prix as a result of taking a new gearbox on Saturday. Autosport are reporting that the AlphaTauri driver ran a Friday gearbox in FP1 and FP2 at Silverstone, so the change relates to a problem that was discovered after the race in Hungary where he finished in P12. The Russian’s team-mate Pierre Gasly suffered a gearbox failure during the race in Budapest and has also taken a new gearbox for Saturday, but because he failed to finish at the Hungaroring he gets a free change and will not be penalised.
