Zanardi undergoes five-hour surgery, remains in serious condition

Alex Zanardi remains in a serious condition in Siena hospital after undergoing a third surgery since he was involved in a serious road accident. Zanardi collided with a truck while handcycling in his native Italy and underwent neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery, before being placed in an induced coma, on Friday 19 June. Zanardi had a second surgery seven days ago and on Monday doctors treating him issued a bulletin detailing that they have carried out another “complex” procedure. “The patient has undergone a new surgery, performed by the professionals of the maxillofacial and neurosurgery, aimed at craniofacial reconstruction and stabilisation of the areas affected by the trauma...
