Honda wanted to start 2019 with Spec 2 engine
Honda's F1 technical director Toyoharu Tanabe has revealed that they wanted their Spec 2 power unit to be ready for the start of 2019. In their first year supplying Toro Rosso and Red Bull Honda were able to inspire Max Verstappen to three race wins, ending their 13-year drought, while Toro Rosso also picked up two podium finishes. The Spec 2 didn't make its debut until the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, though Tanabe revealed that originally they wanted to start the campaign with that version.
