Cyril Abiteboul: McLaren and Renault had different ambitions

Cyril Abiteboul says Renault can consider its McLaren partnership as “very successful” but that it was clear the parties had different post-2020 ambitions. McLaren linked up with Renault from 2018 on a three-year deal in the wake of opting to sever its long-term arrangement with Honda. On Saturday it was confirmed that McLaren will return to Mercedes power from 2021 on a long-term deal, bringing its stay with Renault to a close after 2020. “Since our partnership began, McLaren has gone from ninth to fourth position in the Constructors’ Championship,” said Renault boss Abiteboul. “We can therefore consider this a very successful relationship....
