Nico Hulkenberg: Driver decisions not only about performance

Nico Hulkenberg has reacted to his impending Renault exit by stating that driver decisions are “not only about performance”, after losing his seat to Esteban Ocon. Hulkenberg joined Renault on a three-year deal in 2017 and led the team’s charge, taking a best of seventh in last season’s standings, but has endured a less profitable 2019 campaign. He has scored points in just four events amid Renault’s troubled year and holds only 14th in the standings. It was announced on Thursday that Ocon will join Renault on a two-year deal from 2020 and link up with Daniel Ricciardo, leaving Hulkenberg without a seat.
