Vettel hit with penalty points for Hamilton incident
Sebastian Vettel has received two penalty points on his FIA Super License in addition to his time penalty for unsafely rejoining the track during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel controversially lost the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after being handed a five-second time penalty for almost running Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton into the wall at the Turn 4/5 chicane following a mistake. Vettel lost the rear of his car and ran across the grass before rejoining the track, with Hamilton attempting to pass around the outside at exit, only to be forced to back off as the Ferrari driver came across the line.
