Michael Masi takes on Charlie Whiting's duties for Australian GP

The FIA has confirmed that Michael Masi will act as Race Director for this weekend’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, following the death of Charlie Whiting. Whiting had been Formula 1’s Race Director since 1997 but suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism on Thursday morning in Australia. Whiting’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 paddock, with tributes paid to his involvement in the sport throughout Thursday’s media day at Albert Park. On Thursday evening the FIA confirmed that Masi will take on Whiting’s duties, which also includes being Safety Delegate and Permanent Starter.
