F1 tyre names to be dropped in 2019

Formula 1's different tyre compound will be numbered rather than named in 2019 as Pirelli hope to simplify the system, as well as drop at least one compound. Pirelli created seven compounds for the 2018 campaign, but one – the superhard – has not been used at a single race. Pirelli confirmed earlier this year that the tyres at each race next year will only be referenced to as 'soft', 'medium' and 'hard' – although a range of compounds will remain in play, with Pirelli selecting three – as has been the case for several years.
