Bottas hoped Hamilton would seal title after playing team game
Valtteri Bottas admits he hoped teammate Lewis Hamilton would wrap up the 2018 Formula 1 world championship at the United States Grand Prix after Mercedes once again used team orders. Bottas was told to allow Hamilton past on two separate occasions during Sunday’s race in a bid to help his teammate get into a position to enable him to seal his fifth drivers’ world title. But with Hamilton only able to finish third behind race-winner Kimi Raikkonen and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after being forced onto a two-stop strategy, it was not enough for him to be crowned champion in Austin.
