Sainz: Markelov deserves the opportunity of FP1
Russian Grand Prix – Carlos Sainz says Renault's development driver Artem Markelov has earned his opportunity to take part in FP1 at his home race in Sochi. Sainz will be missing from the first practice session in Russia, as he hands over his Renault to Artem Marvelov, the team's young development driver from Moscow. Sainz, who departs Renault for McLaren at the end of this year, says that it's about time Markelov got the chance to participate in a Grand Prix weekend as the Russian contests his fifth season in the feeder series to F1: 'I’m missing out on FP1 next weekend, as Artem takes over for his first go in a Formula 1 car in an official practice session.
