Raikkonen edges Vettel, Hamilton to Monza pole

Kimi Raikkonen Kimi Raikkonen will start the Italian Grand Prix from pole position after edging Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in a thrilling qualifying session at Monza. Raikkonen made his final run count by logging the fastest ever lap in Formula 1 history as his 1:19.119s effort at an average speed of 16 4mph (264 km/h) snatched pole from Vettel. Vettel initially thought he had taken pole after but Raikkonen who was directly behind him on the road took advantage of a tow to pip the German by 0.161s.
