Main title contender Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel initially qualified on third, but he demoted to sixth following being penalised for blocking Renault’s Carlos Sainz. Vettel’s penalty promoted his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and the Haas F1’s Romain Grosjean.
