Vettel torches Montreal record to take pole

Sebastian Vettel will start the Canadian Grand Prix on pole after a record-breaking performance at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Vettel clocked one minute 10.764 seconds, with Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas nine thousandths of a second adrift. Max Verstappen - dominant in practice - will start third alongside Lewis Hamilton on row two. Vettel's fourth pole position in Canada is Ferrari's first in Montreal since 2001 and snaps a run of Mercedes dominance that had yielded consecutive wins for Hamilton in the past three years.
