Stoffel Vandoorne: McLaren F1 drivers 'very closely matched' in 2018

Stoffel Vandoorne believes he and McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso have been “very very closely matched” in Formula 1 this year, playing down the importance of the statistics. Alonso has out-qualified Vandoorne at each of the six Grands Prix held so far in 2018 – the only driver to do so against his respective team-mate. Alonso has scored 32 points this year to hold eighth in the Drivers’ Championship, his streak only coming to an end when a transmission failure halted his MCL33 in Monaco while set for seventh spot.
