Technical trouble hinders Vandoorne's qualifying efforts
Monaco Grand Prix – Stoffel Vandoorne says he had a problem on his MCL33 that almost stopped him taking part in qualifying. Vandoorne finished the qualifying session in P12, missing out on progressing through to Q2 by just over a tenth of a second. Teammate Fernando Alonso went on to finish P7 and best of the brewing battle between the two factory Renaults and the two McLaren-Renaults. Speaking afterwards, Vandoorne said he had an issue but wouldn't explain what exactly it was: 'We spotted a problem on my car after FP3, but the only way to properly fix it would be to take the gearbox off, fix it, and then put it back on.
