Pirelli tyre names may be simplified to Hard, Medium, Soft
In an effort to simplify how tyres are used in Formula 1 to the casual viewer or onlooker, the FIA has requested that Pirelli limit tyre names to Hard, Medium and Soft irrespective of the compounds being used at any given grand prix weekend. Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola confirmed to reporters at Monaco, 'We had a request from FOM and FIA to just call them hard, medium and soft. With three colours, the same colours and same names for all the races, but obviously different compounds, because you cannot use the same compounds in Silverstone or Monaco.'
