Abiteboul explains the deficit to leading trio

Having out-developed most teams last season, Cyril Abiteboul admits Renault are again lagging behind after failing to produce a car 'at the level of our expectations.' Last season Renault closed the gap on the front-runners and in doing so worked their way up to sixth in the Constructors' Championship. This year, while they may be vying for the ‘best of the rest' tag against McLaren, they have again lost ground to the leading trio. Although the team has featured in Q3, they are on average almost two seconds behind the pole sitter.
