Mercedes keep Bottas in the car instead of Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton will not take part in testing for Mercedes on Tuesday following a surprise change to the team’s schedule on the second day of Formula 1 preseason testing at Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. Defending champion Hamilton, who completed only 25 laps on Monday in the W09, was due to take over from team-mate Valtteri Bottas on Tuesday afternoon but now staying in the car for the remainder of the day to “maximise our mileage”. Hamilton has withdrawn from a number of tests in recent years, but Mercedes say they did not want to lose track time by swapping their drivers. The one-hour lunch break was scrapped following lost time in the morning owing to the cold conditions....
