Hamilton to begin Mercedes F1 contract talks ‘within the next month’

After sealing his fourth Formula 1 world championship, Lewis Hamilton says contract talks will commence in the coming weeks to organise a new deal with Mercedes which he believes will be an “easy process.” The 2017 F1 world champion, who wrapped up the title last weekend at the Mexican Grand Prix, has landed an estimated £2million bonus for clinching the drivers’ crown to go with his current £30m-per-year contract at Mercedes. While Ferrari and Red Bull acted early to lockdown star drivers Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen respectively ahead of the predicted 2018 driver shuffle, Mercedes appears to be keen to pull off a similar feat to keep hold of Hamilton.
