Typhoon ends Gasly's Japanese Super Formula title dream

Pierre Gasly skipped the United States Grand Prix to focus on trying to win the Japanese Super Formula championship, but a typhoon struck the Suzuka area this weekend which has forced organisers to cancel the season's final round. Red Bull backed Gasly, racing for Team Mugen, was half a point shy of top spot, and will thus finish second behind Hiroaki Ishiura who has been declared the 2017 Super Formula champion based on the standings after the previous round in Sugo. Heavy showers and wet conditions impacted the practice and qualifying schedule on Friday and Saturday.
