Kimi Raikkonen joins penalty list after gearbox change

Ferrari has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen is set to join the list of penalised drivers at the Japanese Grand Prix after crashing during the final practice session. Raikkonen went off at Degner 2 and caused damage to his Ferrari SF70-H, and the team has undertaken a gearbox change, resulting in a five-place grid penalty. “Extensive repair work for our garage guys: gearbox and components around must be replaced on Kimi’s car,” Ferrari confirmed. Raikkonen joins Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas in dropping five places on the grid due to a gearbox change, while Renault’s Jolyon Palmer and Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz Jr. have 20 place demotions because of power unit...
