Bottas set for grid drop after gearbox change

Valtteri Bottas is set to be hit with a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver, who opted not to venture out in the FP2 washout at Suzuka, ended the dry morning session fifth fastest with a best lap of 1m 30.151s – over seventh-tenths of a second off of team-mate Lewis Hamilton. It has been reported Bottas is likely to require a gearbox change and due to the regulations requiring each unit to be used for six races the Finnish driver will be handed a five-place grid penalty in Japan.
