Ricciardo surprised by Ferrari's pace in Malaysia practice

Daniel Ricciardo was surprised by Ferrari's pace through Friday's Formula 1 practice sessions for the Malaysian Grand Prix as pre-race favourites Mercedes struggled, allowing Red Bull to run as the second-quickest team. Ricciardo finished second in a wet first practice on Friday behind Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen, only for Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to emerge as the fastest driver through FP2 when conditions were drier. Ricciardo finished the day third-fastest with Verstappen in fourth, while Mercedes failed to make its expected advantage show, taking P6 and P7 overall at the end of the day.
