Sepang FP1: Verstappen tops in the wet

Heavy rain fell over Sepang as first practice got underway in Malaysia on Friday morning, with the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo going quickest in the tricky conditions. Initially there was a 30-minute delay to the start of the session as race control waited for the pools of standing water to disperse, and when the lights went green it was the Red Bull duo who immediately looked most comfortable. Verstappen and Ricciardo traded places at the to of the timing screens as conditions gradually improved until the Dutchman popped a lap of 1:48.962 on Pirelli intermediate tyres towards the end of the session to go seven tenths clear of his team mate, with third place going to...
