Ericsson set for grid penalty after FP3 crash
Marcus Ericsson is set for a gearbox change and five-place grid penalty after an accident in FP3 in Singapore. Ericsson slid sideways exiting Turn 19 and struck the wall with the rear of the car sufficiently hard to remove most of the Sauber's rear wing. More significantly, the rear crash structure was damaged and pushed sideways by the impact, and given that it attaches directly to the gearbox, the team had no option but to make a swap. The Swedish driver has confirmed to Motorsport.com that he will need a new gearbox and therefore will be handed a penalty.
