Former Honda man Simon goes back to FIA

Former Honda Formula 1 engine consultant Gilles Simon, who left the Japanese company on the eve of this season, has rejoined the FIA in a senior technical role. The engine specialist previously enjoyed spells at Renault, Peugeot and most famously Ferrari, before becoming the head of the FIA's technical and powertrain director in 2010. A subsequent switch to the stillborn Pure project in 2011 was followed by a move to join Honda as the manufacturer prepared for its return to F1 in 2015. He helped the company make big progress after a difficult first campaign back, but relations got strained earlier this year in the wake of troubles with its 2017 power unit.
