Hamilton set for grid penalty

Lewis Hamilton's hopes of cutting Sebastian Vettel's title lead in the Austrian GP have suffered a setback with the Mercedes driver set to take a five-place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change. Mercedes have had to change the unit before it has completed its mandatory six races, with the matter referred to the stewards on Friday evening. A grid demotion of five places is the automatic sanction when gearboxes are changed out of sequence. It means that Hamilton, who was fastest in both Friday practice sessions in Austria, will start Sunday's race no higher than sixth. Mercedes informed the FIA of the impending change on Tuesday.
