Pirelli "not confused" by Baku tyre selection

Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola insists that the company is "not confused" after its tyre choices for Baku prompted criticism from drivers who struggled to find grip on Friday. Isola admits that the company knew well in advance that it could have brought the ultrasoft to Azerbaijan – instead of having the supersoft as its softest available tyre – but the choices had to be made almost four months ago, before it had much knowledge about the 2017 cars. For those races further into the season where there was still enough lead time, Pirelli has already made some significant changes, to the extent of dropping the hard tyre for the rest of the year.
