McLaren's straight-line speed deficit 'dangerous' - Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso believes the lack of top speed coming from the Honda engine in the back of his McLaren car is potentially dangerous, as the closing speeds down Canada's long straight meant he and team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne were powerless to stop rivals flying past. Alonso was 16mph down on the cars around him which made holding his position almost impossible, but it was what could happen if a rival driver failed to move around the McLaren in time, underestimating the closing speeds, that Alonso says is dangerous. 'The race itself was already hard enough given the lack of power,' said Alonso. 'They were passing us in the middle of the straights and sometimes it was even dangerous...
