Montreal FP1: Hamilton and Vettel set the pace

Lewis Hamilton was a tad short of two tenths faster than Formula 1 World Championship title rival Sebastian Vettel as he set the early pace in the first free practice of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. Hamilton, in the Mercedes, was 0.198 of a second clear of Ferrari's Vettel with their team-mates Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen third and fourth respectively. Less thank half a second separated the top four. Best of the rest were the Force India pair of Sergio Perez and Esteban, fifth and sixth fastest, suggesting that Circuit Gilles Villeneuve may be a circuit where Mercedes powered cars may have the edge.
