Alonso 'real deal' at Indy

Fernando Alonso has been described as the "real deal" in an IndyCar after he successfully completed his maiden test to clear him to compete in the Indianapolis 500 at the end of May. Three days after a forgettable Russian GP when unreliability on the formation lap meant he was able to take the start, Alonso was in action 5,500 miles away on the famous oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the mandatory Rookie Orientation Programme. Driving a Honda-powered Andretti IndyCar decked out in McLaren's revived orange colours, Alonso passed the various speed tests in around an hour of running to quality for Indy 500 practice which begins on May 15 ahead of the May 28 race.
