New turbos put Vettel, Raikkonen closer to grid penalties

Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have taken a further step towards grid penalties by using new turbochargers in first practice for the Russian Grand Prix. Both Ferrari drivers are now on their third turbos of the season with 17 full race weekends – including Russia – still to run. This year, grid penalties take effect when drivers take their fifth power unit elements, and a rule change  means that drivers can no longer stockpile examples by making multiple changes on one weekend, a ploy that has been used by the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in the past.
