Whiting clears the air over Mexico penalty debate

Brazilian Grand Prix – Formula One Race Director Charlie Whiting has explained the reasoning behind some of the stewards’ decision at the previous race in Mexico. On the opening lap of the race, Lewis Hamilton locked up into the first corner and then cut Turn Two. In doing so, he opened up a gap to the rest of the field, but a Safety Car quickly neutralised that advantage. Later in the race, Max Verstappen did the same whilst defending his podium position from Sebastian Vettel. He maintained position over the Ferrari, and was given a five second time penalty.
