Hamilton breaks circuit record to take pole in Austin

United States Grand Prix – Lewis Hamilton broke the circuit record en route to pole position with a 1:34.999 ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg. Daniel Ricciardo was third. At the start of qualifying, however, it was Jenson Button finding himself at risk of making an early exit from qualifying, on a weekend where McLaren have shown consistent top ten pace, after the first runs in Q1. A second attempt from the Briton saw him hampered by traffic in the third sector, particularly with Jolyon Palmer at the final corner, which saw him qualify just 19th behind Romain Grosjean in 17th and Kevin Magnussen.
