Analysis: McLaren wing points to 2017 concept work

McLaren is investigating a new front wing in Austin that is intended to help the team understand a concept it is chasing for next year's car, given the different relationship the wing will have with the wider front tyres. McLaren MP4-31, front wing Photo by: Giorgio Piola Clearly, the wing fixed to Fernando Alonso's MP4-31 doesn't share the same deltoid DNA that will be present in the 2017 challenger but it does offer us some insight, as the new wing features no arch on the outer section of the mainplane. Instead, the entire leading edge on the first profile is slightly upturned to allow airflow under the wing, before meeting with the footplate (see arrow for usual residence of the arch)....
