Rosberg narrowly takes pole position at Suzuka

Japanese Grand Prix – Thirteen thousandths of a second separated the two Mercedes drivers as Nico Rosberg beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix. With the dark clouds present in free practice three lifting, the threat of rain at Suzuka had reduced over the course of the day. This resulted in no mad dash to leave the pits at the start of the qualifying hour. Rosberg's best effort in the first part of qualifying was completed with an error at the second Degner curve, but he was still able to maintain a gap to Hamilton in the early stages of the session.
