Virtual Safety Car timing costs Button

Malaysian Grand Prix – Jenson Button was hurt by the timing of the second Virtual Safety Car during the race in Sepang. The Briton started ninth and was up as high as fourth following the Turn 1 calamities between Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen. Working with a two-stop strategy, Button was set to take seventh place ahead of team mate Fernando Alonso who had worked his way up from the back of the grid. However, Lewis Hamilton’s retirement from the race brought out a Virtual Safety Car shortly after Button had pitted, costing him time to his rivals.
