Alonso gets up to seventh from last on the grid
Malaysian Grand Prix – Fernando Alonso worked his way up from the back of the grid to a sensational seventh place for McLaren. The Spaniard had a 45-place grid penalty going into qualifying, guaranteeing him a spot at the back of the field for the start of the race. A brilliant start saw him up to 13th place by the end of Lap 1, before working his way back up into the points. Under the first Virtual Safety Car, Alonso stopped for hard tyres, utilising a three-stop strategy before the second Virtual Safety Car allowed him to push on a set of softs to the chequered flag, almost catching Sergio Perez’s Force India for sixth. “It was definitely a very exiting race for us today, with some...
