Haas fined 5,000 for Gutierrez incident
The Haas Formula 1 team has been fined 5000 for the unsafe release of Esteban Gutierrez during the Malaysian Grand Prix. Gutierrez retired from the race after his left-front wheel detached from his car on Lap 42, as Kimi Raikkonen was about to lap him. The stewards accepted that Gutierrez did not know about the problem, and therefore did not impose a penalty on the Mexican. They said the retention devices operated within their required design limits and accepted a mechanical failure was the most likely cause for the problem. Despite that, Haas was still deemed to have sent the car out in an unsafe condition and was fined for it. The team was also asked to provide a report on the failure....
