Alonso gets engine upgrade... and penalty

Fernando Alonso is to have an updated power unit in Malaysia this weekend... with resultant grid penalty. The update, which is understood to involve modifications to the exhaust and a lighter engine block, see the Japanese manufacturer use up two or its three remaining tokens. The Spaniard will therefore use a new ICE (internal combustion engine), turbocharger, MGU-H and control electronics this weekend, which, while putting him at the back of the grid, should add to his stockpile - a move that will be outlawed next season - and get him to the end of the season. Alonso, will also have access to updated parts that he will be evaluating during Friday's sessions.
