The fighters appeared in the start/stop strait around the Marina Bay circuit, the death-defying marshal was still in the middle of the track trying to clear some debris from an early Nico Hulkenberg crash. The safety car period seemed to have ended quicker than expected and this was clearly miscommunication by officials, leaving the steward with a high stakes race of his own to win.
