Bite-size tech: Mercedes W07 brake set-up

Mercedes is once again looking for maximum brake cooling in the high temperatures of Singapore, with several distinctive changes. These are things that we’ve seen the German marque do before and so you’d hope it is enough to cope with the extra demand, especially as Nico Rosberg’s concerns were heard on the radio during free practice. Rather than using an enclosed drum, the team is utilising one that stops short of the brake disc, allowing heat generated under braking to escape out of the wheel face rather than be encapsulated. Mercedes is still using the disc with the scalloped face, supplied by Carbone Industries, which not only improves heat dissipation but also comes with weight...
