Verstappen alone in getting upgraded Renault engine

The Red Bull RB12 of Max Verstappen will be the sole Renault-engined car carrying an upgraded power unit in the Singapore Grand Prix. The FIA has confirmed that Renault's upgrade used up three tokens, leaving the French manufacturer with 18 remaining. The decision by Red Bull to only give the upgrade to Verstappen has been prompted by the Dutchman being on a different engine duty cycle to his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who is still competing with an older spec. And although it would appear to hand Verstappen an advantage at Singapore over Ricciardo, it was also logical for Renault to deliver an available improvement at a track where Red Bull is in contention for a strong result.
