Rosberg quickest in FP1 as Alonso hits engine trouble Nico Rosberg fastest in the timesheets during first free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix, ahead of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton. The championship leader already on the back foot following Mercedes confirmed that he will take a 15-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race. The first part of the session Rosberg tested the ‘Halo’ cockpit protection device, Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Daniel Ricciardo also lapped using the Halo in the early part of the session.
