Ricciardo to trial ‘halo’ at Belgian Grand Prix Nico Rosberg, Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz will not be the only F1 drivers trying the ‘Halo' cockpit protection device in Belgian Grand Prix Friday practice. It has emerged that the Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo – an outed opponent of the safety-oriented concept – will also be using Halo at Spa-Francorchamps, ahead of its potential mandatory debut in 2018. Ferrari and Red Bull have already tested the device in practice sessions this season but Red Bull say they prefer their aeroscreen idea, effectively a mini-windscreen which others have said is not yet safe enough.
