Bite-size tech: McLaren MP4-31 splitter winglet
McLaren is still making a concerted effort to improve performance during 2016 but it becomes ever more likely that it will introduce known concepts used by others or items that can carry over to 2017 and aren't strictly affected by the regulation... In Germanyit has trialled a new winglet that sits astride the splitter in much the same position that Red Bull has had it mounted for the entire season. The device will continue to condition airflow structures such as the Y250 vortex, that is shed from the front wing, improving flow around the sidepods undercut.
