Rosberg stays on top as Verstappen closes

Mercedes AMG Petronas Championship leader Nico Rosberg clocked the quickest time for Mercedes during the final practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, narrowly edging out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Rosberg improved on his initial benchmark to clock a lap of 1:20.261, which put him almost half a second clear of the chasing pack. Verstappen subsequently made progress and posted a time of 1:20.263, putting him just 0.002s shy of Rosberg’s lap. Daniel Ricciardo was third, 0.465s behind Rosberg, with Lewis Hamilton a low-key fourth, having missed most of Friday’s second session after a crash.
